The Seven Health Benefits of Strawberries

There are many, many reasons to eat strawberries. My favorite reason is taste. Strawberries taste great. But besides taste here are seven reasons to eat strawberries.

1) Killer Source of Fiber
One cup of strawberries has over 13% of your recommended daily intake of fiber and only 43 calories. Dietary fiber in strawberries helps to keep your digestive system healthy, lowers your blood pressure and keeps you feeling full.

2) They’re Loaded with Disease Fighting Antioxidants
Anthocyanin’s are found in abundance in strawberries. They are a type of antioxidant that gives strawberries their red color. These antioxidants have been shown to reduce the symptoms of diabetes, improve eyesight, and reduce inflammation.

3) Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
Strawberries fight inflammatory disorders like osteoarthritis, asthma and atherosclerosis. They do it through an inhibiting enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX), the same way that aspirin and ibuprofen do. But unlike aspirin and ibuprofen, strawberries don't carry unwanted side effects like stomach and intestinal bleeding.

4) Cancer Fighter

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in strawberries are known to fight the onset of many different cancers. Vitamin C, folate, flavonoids quercetin and kaempferol defend against potentially cancerous cells as well.

5) Good Eye Health and Vision
Recent studies show that three or more servings of strawberries (along with other fruits) per day can decrease the possibility of contracting age-related eye diseases like Glaucoma by one-third.

6) Blood Pressure and Immune Health
One cup of strawberries contains an insane 136% of your recommended daily value of vitamin C. Vitamin-C is an antioxidant that lowers blood pressure and boosts your immune system.

7) Bone Strength
The potassium, vitamin K, and magnesium and manganese found in strawberries helps strengthen and build bones.
